Abstract

Waste is an unavoidable variable when dealing with the production of laminate tubes. Laminate tubes are used in countless mundane objects, however little research has been done regarding the waste itself, from the quantity to the way it is handled and disposed of. Direct observations and research in PT Pacific Equinox, a leading production company for laminate tubes, was done to solve the problem. Preliminary findings show numerous amounts of waste material, among them cardboard, ABL (Aluminum Barrier Laminate), and PBL (Plastic Barrier Laminate). Though to some extent this is true, this research proves that the only harmful waste is aluminum and plastic. Aluminum and plastic cannot be separated during the disposal of laminate tubes, making them only recycled into gutter carpets, which do not have a high demand. So, they mostly reuse waste from the factory to make more laminate tube-based products. Consumers, however, do not have the knowledge and resources to properly dispose of ABL, therefore producing harmful waste. Other than this, PT Pacific Equinox also falls victim to regular factory production waste, classified into B3, liquid, solid, and gas waste. Solid waste includes packaging materials such as plastics and cardboard, gas waste is the product of burning these materials, and liquid waste in PT Pacific Equinox is oil residue from machinery. The most harmful waste, B3, is also liquid, this being UV ink and the aforementioned oil residue. Keywords: Aluminum Barrier Laminate, laminate tubes, harmful waste
