Abstract
Food processing companies are bound to have refrigeration systems. In this case, the company that has been standing since the year 1994, CV. Indo Jaya Pratama utilizes Air-Blast machines to freeze their sardines in order to preserve their quality. Due to this usage, it is necessary for them to choose refrigeration machines with high Coefficient of Performance (COP) in order that the fish quality is preserved and the money invested into the machine can be put into good use. The purpose of this study is to determine CV. Indojaya Pratama’s Air-Blast Freezer Coefficient of Performance as well as to calculate the minimum cost required for the machine to operate properly. The author’s group was tasked with finding as much information regarding the study of choice. The group gathered data whilst interviewing Mr. Heru Santoso, director of CV. Indo Jaya Pratama and Ms. Atika Fitriani, head of the Quality Control sector via ZOOM Meeting. Besides the interview, the author’s group also gathered additional data from the internet, such as from readily available online journals, and a wide variety of websites that contains materials relevant with the author’s study of choice. After applying the Laws of Thermodynamics and calculating the amount of electricity being used, it was evident that one of the most notable outcomes was that the company’s Air-Blast Freezer Coefficient of Performance turned out to be 4,22. The value of the coefficient of performance which was obtained from this research can be categorized as quite miniscule for a big factory like CV. Indo Jaya Pratama. With this in mind, it is best for food processing companies to search for better refrigeration and freezing systems. Keywords: CV.
