Abstract

Physics is the natural science that studies matter, its motion and behaviour through space and time, and the related entities of energy and force. It has various applications in day-to-day life, one of them being in the industrial process of production. Through this paper, students are encouraged to learn beyond the borders of the classroom as they witness the real life applications of principles they have learned in class. This was achieved during the virtual excursion study held by St. Louis 1 Catholic Senior High School. While usually held in the form of visitations to the partner companies, the excursion study was held online due to current health restrictions implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sido Muncul, a company specialising in traditional medicinal products, was one of the partners for this year’s excursion study. This paper focuses on volumetric flow rate, which was observed in the packaging process of the products produced by PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sido Muncul. The study resulted in a deeper knowledge regarding the production of traditional medicinal products in a modern era, as well as a better understanding of the mechanisms in Physics that could be applied in real life. Students acquired knowledge of the company’s background while discovering how Physics fit into the inner workings of the company. Keywords: Physics, excursion, traditional medicinal products
