Abstract

A machine is a system that uses power to apply forces and control movement to perform certain actions. Machines are heavily tied to physics. Physics dictates how a machine is built and functions. Without an understanding of physics, one can not try to understand the workings of a machine. This study was conducted to know how physics is used in the system of a machine. This study specifically looked into the machines used for making animal feed, poultry feed to be exact. A few of the team members went to PT Sinar Indochem as a part of the study excursion. PT Sinar Indochem explained everything about animal feed, from materials, processes, to distribution, followed by a question and answer session. Then, the team members that were present were invited to tour the inside factory to see the animal feed-making process firsthand. From this study, the team found that most of the machines use the application of the theory of thermodynamics and the principle of vibration. For the engine itself, an electric motor is used to drive it. The amount of electricity needed to operate one of its machines specifically is calculated to be around 10.080 Kwh, or in terms of money, it costs around Rp. 11.538.979 per 24 hours to operate. This study concludes that many principles of physics are used in the workings of a machine, and one of them, electrical power, can be calculated so that the amount of electricity used and the cost can be known.
