Abstract

Studies have proven that without recycling waste, especially for solid waste, negative effects to the air, water, and earth will be present. Some of said effects are diseases like COPD, cardiovascular, or cancer, soil contamination, and extreme weather due to waste emissions. Not only that, the solid waste of wood is the leading cause of these effects. Further testified by the EDMI and leading biology experts Karmana, 2007; Susilowarno, 2007, the effects of solid wood waste can be found in rich tropical countries. Due to this problem, the wood processing plant CV. Jawa Timur Baru, Gresik was surveyed. The general purpose of this study is to understand how our country manages the issues of wood waste that is formed in the field of biology. As a result, the process and potential together with the effects and prevention will be the topics in which shall be discussed. Specifically, sawdust, wood skin, fragments of leftover wood, and residual steam from burning. The acquisition of data is done through qualitative collection. Backed up with testimonies and answers of the workers, managers, and general staff. Data was also found through observation of the environment together with the technology that is used to recycle solid wood waste and comparisons with standards from the SVLK to make sure that the statistics are clear. The results stated that proper discardment, utilizing Recycling, Reducing, and Reusing and inspection of the area of work is strongly recommended to vanquish the threat of added pollution. Not only that, this observation has further proven that following the standards and protocols of the SVLK, adding extra effort in the filtration of waste, committing to sawmill, kiln dry, and molding. Besides the lack of filtration and renewed technology from the subject of observation, it is highly recommended that many factories in the field of wood should follow these protocols.
