Abstract
Stainless steel is one of the most common materials used in making house furniture such as tables, chairs, cupboards, etc. The process from making slabs of stainless steel to products uses machines that apply physics concepts. There are laser machines that apply the concept of the kinetic theory of gasses, welding machines that apply heat, and bending machines that apply the concept of pressure. The aim of this research is to answer three research questions; (1) What is the application of the kinetic theory of gasses to laser machines that are used to cut stainless steel? (2) What is the impact of heat and heat transfer processes on the welding machines that are used to assemble stainless steel? (3) How does pressure affect the bending process? In order to collect needed data, literature review, observation, and interview are used to collect the data. Furthermore, descriptive and inferential data analysis techniques are used to analyze the collected data. Based on the results of the research, there are three steps in making stainless steel products, including cutting, assembly, and bending. All the processes apply physics concepts. In the cutting process, the concept of the kinetic theory of gasses is used in laser machines that use nitrogen. The nitrogen is set into a certain amount of pressure so the machine produces a high temperature which is needed in the cutting process. In the assembly process, electricity is converted into heat which is powering welding machines. The heat transport throughout cables is carried out through the process of conduction. The heat then forwarded to machines’ parts. In the bending process, the concept of pressure is used in bending machines as the bending machine produces pressure through the force applied to the cylinder that is used to form stainless steel as needed. In conclusion, stainless steel products are made with three steps: cutting, assembly, and bending. All of them apply physics concepts, such as the kinetic theory of gasses, heat, and pressure. Keywords: stainless steel, the kinetic theory of gasses, heats, pressure
