Abstract

ABSTRACT Tandra, A. E., Christabel, C. E., Indrawan, E., Saputro, E. L. et al. (2021). “Proses produksi klorin dan natrium hipoklorit pt pabrik kertas tjiwi kimia tbk." PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. is a large company that produces a wide range of products in various fields. One of the industries this company runs on is the chemical industry which production takes place in their chemical plant. This company’s chemical plant produces different types of chemicals, two of which were liquid chlorine and sodium hypochlorite. The purpose of this report is to explain the manufacturing process and the utilization of the liquid chlorine and sodium hypochlorite produced by PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. The composition of this report comprises qualitative research and analysis of previous studies related to the topic. In this report, some data related to the production of liquid chlorine and sodium hypochlorite by PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. are obtained from the direct explanation of the representatives of PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. which was through an online conference. This research indicates the liquid chlorine and sodium hypochlorite made by PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. went through a chemical process of alkaline chlorine electrolysis in an ion-exchange membrane electrolyzer that resulted in the forming of chlorine in the form of gas, caustic soda, and hydrogen gas. These chemicals are then processed with further procedures to finally become the final products of liquid chlorine and sodium hypochlorite that can be distributed to the customers and utilized. This research also shows how these two products benefit different aspects of human life, especially for disinfection.
