Abstract

Human beings need food as their main source of energy to support their daily lives. The food which enters the human body must be digested through the digestive system. The digestive system contains various organs, one of which is the intestine. Inside the human intestine, there are thousands of bad bacteria which can cause disorders. Such disorders can be overcome by consuming probiotic food and drinks, such as Yakult. Yakult is a probiotic drink produced by PT. Yakult Indonesia Persada, which uses powdered skimmed milk, sucrose, dextrose, water, and the Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota bacteria as its main ingredients. The carbohydrates contained in Yakult serve to balance the sweet and sour taste in the drink as well as give nutritions to the bacteria. The purpose of this report is to identify and study the carbohydrate compounds in Yakult. The methods used to collect data in this report are free interview and literature review methods. The free interview method is done by asking questions related to things the respondent wants to deepen. Meanwhile, the literature review method is done by researching and evaluating erudite sources that are relevant to the topic via journal articles, scientific reports, encyclopedias, and related websites. The result of this report explains that the types of carbohydrates in Yakult drinks are monosaccharides consisting of dextrose and disaccharides consisting of sucrose and lactose. Therefore, the carbohydrate compounds contained in Yakult are sucrose, dextrose, and lactose.
