Abstract

Chemicals have a major role in our daily lives and it is used in many industries, such as the manufacturing industry, construction industry, service industry, and many more. However, the knowledge of how these chemicals are produced is rarely imparted in today’s education. To address this, SMA Katolik St. Louis 1 Surabaya held an excursion study to PT Tjiwi Kimia Tbk, which is located at Mojokerto. This excursion study was done online as there was still an ongoing pandemic. The purpose of this study is that students will be able to gain knowledge regarding how these chemicals are mass-produced at PT Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. Speakers from PT Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. were invited to impart their knowledge regarding how their products are made and how they package their products to be able to arrive at the consumers safely to the students and the students were able to freely ask questions to the invited speakers. Results of this excursion study showed that PT Tjiwi Kimia Tbk. used a method called the electrolysis process, a process in which electric current is passed through a substance to effect a chemical change, to produce their chemical products. This report will mainly discuss the electrolysis process used at PT Tjiwi Kimia Tbk.
