Abstract

Tumpeng is a Javanese traditional food where rice is served in a cone shape and then arranged with several side dishes. Various types of tumpeng in several regions of Indonesia have their own philosophy that are connected with the cultures in the village. The purpose of our study is to observe whether tumpeng influences the social life of Bejijong Village. The methods we use to obtain data are in the form of interviews, literature studies, & observations. With information from observing and interviewing the people in Bejijong Village, Tumpeng Paripurna has brought togetherness in Bejijong Village, it is used for events and rituals that are done by the people in Bejijong Village. This concludes that Tumpeng plays an important role in the social lives of Bejijong Village. We recommend that there should be future studies on how tumpeng can encourage togetherness in a multicultural society. Keywords: tumpeng, philosophy, culture, multicultural society
