Abstract

Foams have been used in various fields of life, such as the medical field, household, and others. Throughout the years, the demand for foams are getting higher and the number of products needed are increasing. Therefore, to accomplish the effectiveness of the productions and the quality of the products required for the demand, factories keep improving the machines they have been using. In the foam factories itselves, they have several machines such as mixer machine and cutter machine. Both of which can work because of physics. Even though people have been using foam for their daily life, most of them still can't figure out how the foams are made and how physics applied in the machines which have been used for production. The purpose of this study is to describe the production process and also to describe and analyze physics concepts in the foam production process. This series of research was conducted at the CV. Gesalunda Foam which is located at Jalan Geluran PLN No. 19, Taman-Sepanjang, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java 61257. This research was conducted with a qualitative method. The research data was collected by using literature study, observation, and interview techniques. The results of this research concluded that foams production process in CV. Gesalunda Foam goes through three processes, namely mixing, printing, and cutting. The mixing machine applies two physical concepts, namely circular motion and fluid mechanics. The printing process does not use any concept of physics. The last process, namely cutting, using the concept of pressure physics. In conclusion, in this era full of technologies, CV Gesalunda Foam is using various kinds of machines to keep up with the development of technologies. That is why CV. Gesalunda Foam uses the application of physics for machines that support the continuity of the foam production process.
