Abstract

Excursion is one of St.Louis 1 Senior High School Program to help its students to see the real application of science. One of it is biology, learning about the environtment. As we know, chemical based pesticide is slowly damaging our environment because of its toxic components. Meanwhile, biopesticide is made from safe, natural ingredients such as plants, animals, or microorgranisms that are much more enviromentally friendly. Unfortunately, the knowledge of biopesticide hasn’t spread well in the community. Therefore, we started a study to share the knowledge of biopesticide.In order to acquire the facts, the research was conducted by observing biopesticide in kaliandra Eco Resort & Organic farm, interviewing specialist, and doing literature study from previous researches. Based on the study, it truns out that there are two types of biopesticides which are usually used : palnt-based and microorganism-based biopesticide. Interestingly, biopesticide is as effective as chemical-based pesticides. Unlike chemical-based pesticides, biopesticide has no harmful effect to the environment. There is also no significant change in the crop’s taste and quality. The procedure to make plant based biopesticide is also faily simple, by mixing the plant components and water with a 1.1 ratio. With its numerous benefits and simple production process, biopesticide should be more widely used to replace chemical-based pesticide.
