Abstract

Indonesia is a country which is made up of dozens of diverse and unique cultures. Unfortunately these cultures seem to fade out with time, however many regions have started taking sure measures in preserving their cultures; one of these regions is Nglinggo Village located in Yogyakarta. This paper is made to understand the effects that come from embracing modernisation especially the social changes in Nglinggo Village’s community. This paper also seeks to know Nglinggo Village’s culture while also seeing what efforts and roles do the villagers take to preserve it. The information for this paper is collected from a series of interviews and indirect observations. From those methods, It can be found that cooperation between jobs in the community has become more prominent after the village’s transition to a recreational village. It is also known that the villagers play a large role in managing their village’s recreational function especially with utilizing technology as its medium while also maintaining various local cultures such as: the angguk dance, wiwitan and more. This shows that Nglinggo Village still holds its traditions strongly despite the ever-growing modernisation and that it adapts to its new environment. Keywords: Nglinggo Village, recreational village, culture, tourism, preserve, social changes
