Abstract

ABSTRACT Heriawan, T.E., Herijanto, B.A., Darmawan, C.E. et al. 2021. Excursion Study is an event that is held annually for St. Louis 1 Catholic Senior High School students to introduce the possible implementations of specific school subjects in the work industry. For the group of students who chose the physics subject, PT Sido Muncul, Tbk. were invited to this event to inform about the viable executions of the physics theories that the students learn in school, in the production process of their products. PT Sido Muncul accepted our offer and shared their knowledge in making Indonesian traditional medicine with modern technology. As the Excursion Study is being held, students learn brand new things outside the standard curriculum at school that focuses on the application of the subjects that students learn in the school. Students learned about the biography of PT Sido Muncul and how they thrive throughout the years. They also learn how modern technology like the Extraction Machine inside the COD2 (Cairan Obat Dalam) factory work to produce PT Sido Muncul’s finest products with high efficiency and less human errors. The outcome of this event showed that by developing a report out of the Excursion Study and presenting the report, titled “Proses Ekstraksi Pada Produksi Tolak Angin PT Sido Muncul”, the students get to know better regarding the correlation between the school subject’s material and knowledge accompanied by applications outside the school environment. The main conclusion of this Excursion Study is that there are many implementations of physics used in PT Sido Muncul’s machines, for instance, the extraction process that uses percolation and thermodynamics principle. This year, due to the pandemic situation, the Excursion Study event is being held virtually. We advocate that although PT Sido Muncul uses high-tech and automated machines, there still should be some workers that check on the machines regularly to maximize the product quality.
